The Plymouth D.I. Fund

Support the Annual Plymouth D.I. Fund

Our Annual Plymouth DI Fund was created to support our growing DI Program. We believe we already provide our students with an exceptional program, free of charge, but we know we can make it even better. We hope you will help us grow and continue to improve by making a tax-deductible donation to this fund.

Our current priorities for the DI Fund are to pay for:

  • Teacher professional development. Teaching Mandarin or our English curriculum in half a day requires techniques and training specific to these tasks. The DI Fund will give our teachers the ability to take advantage of targeted professional development opportunities.

  • More teaching and assessment tools. The DI Fund will allow us to purchase materials and tools to supplement our current Mandarin curriculum, such as (but not limited to) standardized assessments, online learning programs, and more Mandarin books.

  • Afternoon aide time in our kindergarten classes. District policy is that kindergarten classes receive one half-day aide, which means that our DI students do not have aide support in the afternoons even though they are receiving new instruction in a different language than their mornings. We believe afternoon aide support will allow teachers to cover material more equally between their mornings and afternoons and better prepare our students for success as they progress in our program.

Our goal this year is to raise $40,000 in order to provide these benefits to our DI students. Though this amount may seem like a lot, with 176 students in our DI program, this amounts to $227 per student. This investment is very modest when compared to the cost of Mandarin education through private schools or tutoring. In addition, as we look at other successful public Mandarin DI programs, nearly all have made this same decision—to reach out to their families for additional financial support.

We would greatly appreciate any amount you are able to donate—every dollar helps!—but please know that contribution is entirely voluntary. In fact, your contributions will be entirely anonymous to our Plymouth staff and families as the DI Fund will be held by the Monrovia Schools Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting Monrovia schools. All donation checks should be written to Monrovia Schools Foundation (please use the attached form), and the school will only be given an account of the total amount raised.

Thank you so much for your continued support of our Mandarin DI Program. We are committed to always improving the program and supporting our students’ learning in every way possible.

I wish you much prosperity and good health in the new year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Greg Gero
